We had so much fun in the older class today. We turned our real life memories into great fiction. First we made a list of all the things that have happened in our life up to this point. Then we picked the one thing that gave us the strongest reaction or the most emotion. We wrote down our memory, as clearly as we could remember. Lastly we changed those stories up by changing some of the characters or rewriting the ending. Magic and fantasy were welcomed into our stories. The homework is to finish the stories, make sure they are interesting and engaging, and type them up.
Mad Libs are always a hit! The younger class wrote their own today and then shared them with a friend. The whole class got to hear the finish product. This is a great way to learn parts of speech; which we had a lesson on before they started writing. The homework is to write their own Mad Lib to share next week.
We also went over many different ways to say "walk". We sauntered, shuffled, wobbled, strutted, rambled, tottered, ambled, staggered, flounced, trudged, reeled, minced and roamed around the classroom. From now on they must use a more exact word for walked in their stories; I call this dollarizing our ten cent words.
