Ghost stories make a great writing exercise, because we don't have to worry about a seamless plot. These stories can be successful if one just concentrates on setting and atmosphere. The best ghost stories don't have a cut and dried explanation; they're unresolved. The goal with this assignment is to write a creepy ghost story, not a horror story.
Every ghost story needs:
1. a setting- when and where
2. a ghost- why is he/she haunting
3. someone to haunt- why are they being haunted
4. limitations- the ghost needs parameters to keep things more interesting and scary
5. a plot- focus on a creepy setup, a ghostly event, a nervous reaction, and a partial explanation.
