A Red Herring is the introduction of an irrelevant point into an argument. Someone may think (or want us to think) it proves his side, but it really doesn't. We have learned, and will continue to learn, how to recognize a red herring and how to turn the discussion back to the real topic.
What is a sentence and what is not? This week we worked on sentence structure. We started with a two word sentence that had a verb and a noun; we will slowly added more descriptive words to that sentence, until we had a six word sentence. We then moved onto writing wonderfully descriptive sentences. By the end of this lesson every scholar was able to include more than one piece of information in a sentence; and write a interesting sentence while following directions.
This month we will be focusing on grammar, but hopefully it will be so fun that no one will realize they are having a grammar lesson.
We are now into the next set of English From the Roots Up flash cards; A Brighter Child sells them as well as Amazon, if you would like to pick them up. By the end of this semester we will know 200 Greek and Latin words. Keep studying them at home so that your child doesn't fall behind and get discouraged.
