Writing For Pets

Writing to a pet is a sure way to have fun and let go and play. This week students wrote to their pet or pets, they choose stories based on what their pet will be interested in.
We learned that cats like stories about world domination and fanciful tales. Dogs like stories with lots of action, plots aren't really important to dogs. Birds are only interested in a good snack, so food stories are something they enjoy. Fish are so bored that any story is a welcome diversion, they enjoy stories about the outside world. Vermin and pests are smart and strong, but they are evil; so stories that scare them off are best. Small household rodents enjoy fables, because they are often the star and not the sidekick. If a student doesn't have a pet they can write a story for their stuffed animal; they aren't as responsive as real animals, but they have long attention spans.
The homework is to finish and rewrite the stories they worked on in class. For every typed page they turn in they will earn a ticket. They can earn an addition ticket for bringing in a picture of them reading to their pet.
