Ask your scholar what onomatopoeia is. If they can't answer then they must have slept through class.
Onomatopoeia: the formation of words whose sound imitates the sound of a noise or action, such as hiss, buzz, and bang.
We played with all sorts of noise makers and the students learned how to spell the sound they made. We then wrote a story full of onomatopoeia's. Have your scholar read you their story, they really wrote some great, imaginative work.
The story spine was:
Once upon a time...
And every day...
Until one day...
And because of that...
And because of that...
And because of that...
Until finally...
And ever since that day...
