This week we played a life size board game; where the students were the game pieces and the die was 8 inches square. In this game the students rolled the die to find out what square they would land on. On each square was written a genre of literature. They had to write in that genre, and there was a twist to the game. Before the game started each student wrote a word on a 3x5 card. During the game they had to draw one of these words from the stack of cards and use that word in their writing. I think they all had a great time playing.
The homework over the next two weeks is to come up with their own board game. We will play these the last two weeks of class. Students will be judged on the following:
- Most original
- colorful
- design and details
- fun
- strategy
- cool game pieces
- clear, simple instructions
- age appropriate
- storage container
- Done the week of May 13&14 earns extra points
We took a quiz this week to see how well everyone is doing memorizing Greek and Latin. This week we had 8 words, the next few weeks we will only have 4 word quizzes. This weeks words were:
hydroelectric, hippodrome, anniversary, contemporary, bona fide, eulogy, manuscript, hypodermic. They were to find the two root words contained within each word, define the root word and then figure out what the English word meant.
We have three more weeks of class! It has been a wonderful year working with your children.
