Falling Star

I want thank each of my students for the way they treated the substitutes last week, I got glowing reports on everyone's behavior.

This week we learned more about our main character. Our hero was dropped into a story and we got to see how he/she reacted, by finishing the story. The story is as follows:

I flopped on my bunk, my pajamas sticking to my sweaty skin. My cabin at this summer camp only had wooden floors and a fabric roof, so I could stare out at the stars glittering in the clear sky. I wondered why some stars seemed to twinkle, as I watched one particularly bright star that glimmered more than the others.
I kept watching as it seemed not only to twinkle, but to glide across the sky and grow even brighter. "Hey everyone, look at that!" I shouted as I climbed on my knees. "That star is moving!" I stared in surprise as the light drifted toward our cabin. Several campers jumped on my bed and gathered around me to watch. "Is it a spaceship?" someone asked. But no, even thought it was getting nearer, it really wasn't very big. In fact, this little light, now just above the treetops, was kind of tiny. It seemed small enough to fit in one hand. We heard it humming a low note as it hovered for a few seconds before slowly descending to the ground. "I've got to see this," I said, and the whole gang followed me down the steps. Tiptoeing across the damp grass, we slowly approached the shining object.
And then...
